Cambridge Road, Te Awamutu. NZ.
This couple asked me to come up with a location that was a little grimy, dirty, with texture. My immediate thought was ‘Building Site!’. I was driving back from an assignment one late afternoon with some funky tunes when I spotted a derelict building close to town… It looked perfect! In amongst wild grasses, with broken windows galore… it had a really interesting look and feel that I just knew they would really appreciate. The day of the shoot was approaching and low and behold. Demolition was scheduled to begin. Darn it!
We rescheduled the shoot for the following weekend and during the week I met with the site manager to make sure we could be on site for the shoot. All was cool and we got the permission we needed, on the proviso that we be extremely careful.. Hey, careful is my middle name!
Come the day of the shoot, the buildings that were there were now rubble! Just a shell of the largest building was all that remained… Those demolition guys really work fast! Turns out, it was just right for us…That little bit of variety, not too spoilt for choice, does get you thinking on your toes…
We had a really fun time on location during this shoot. The sun came out at just the right time. I do like the harshness of the sun at times. I know most photographers LOVE those overcast days, but there is something really dramatic about full on sun…and I love it!
A little camera shy at first, but with a little encouragement and direction from me they were away! Towards the end of the session the cold Winter wind started to get the better of us…
Well, the proof is in the photos and I’m really pleased with how they came out.
Leave a comment, I would love to hear what you think.
All the best to Guys. You were a great, fun couple to hang with.
